PETALING JAYA, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government remains committed to empowering local entrepreneurs to ensure they can grow sustainably and remain competitive in an evolving digital economy.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said empowering entrepreneurs remains a priority for his administration, as micro-entrepreneurs are among the key drivers of the state's economic growth.
"The state government will continue to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem through a comprehensive approach encompassing digitalisation, access to financing, capacity building and strategic networks.
"This is to ensure more local entrepreneurs can grow sustainably and compete not only at the national level but also internationally," he said when speaking at the Platform Selangor Awards Night 2026 (MAPS 2026) here tonight.
Also present were Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Najwan Halimi and MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor.
Amirudin said this commitment is reflected through the Platform Selangor (PLATS) initiative, which has brought together more than 100,000 registered entrepreneurs across the state in building an inclusive and sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor) group chief executive officer Datuk Saipolyazan M Yusop said MAPS 2026 was organised to recognise the perseverance, resilience and innovative spirit of entrepreneurs.
He said as a strategic investment agency of the Selangor state government, MBI Selangor through MBI Foundation, remains committed to expanding the impact of socio-economic development through various inclusive entrepreneurship programmes and initiatives in its role as the state government's strategic investment agency.
"With the support of our strategic partners, we will continue to empower local entrepreneurs to become more resilient, innovative and competitive in an increasingly dynamic economic landscape," he said.
The highlight of the event saw Minah Satay founder Norminah Syafrial receiving the Selangor State Micro-Entrepreneur Main Award, taking home prizes worth RM20,000, comprising RM5,000 in cash and RM15,000 under the Selangor MADANI Entrepreneur Fund (DUMS).
A total of 23 recognitions were presented across nine award categories, including five MAPS 2026 Special Awards, each carrying prizes worth RM18,000, comprising RM3,000 in cash and RM15,000 under DUMS. Other awards included the U-PLATS Halal Excellence Award, the U-PLATS Local Authority Digital Excellence Award and the PLATS Biaya Excellent Entrepreneur Award.
MAPS 2026, organised by the MBI Foundation, was held in collaboration with the Selangor State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), MBI Selangor and local authorities (PBT).
