TH RCI : Investigation Must Proceed Transparently, Free From Interference

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Investigations following the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the management of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) must proceed transparently and without interference, Daie MADANI chairman Amir Zuhair Abdull Khalid said.

He said the RCI report, which covers the period from 2014 to 2020, contains findings that should be addressed through the proper legal process.

"We support the Prime Minister in taking action. Do not interfere with the investigation. Do not interfere with the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission).

"Let this investigation take place and continue to proceed. Whoever is at fault, bring them to court," he said when speaking at the RCI Tabung Haji Solidarity Peaceful Gathering in front of Menara TH here today.

Amir Zuhair said the issue goes beyond political polemics as it concerns the integrity and trust involved in managing the funds of millions of Muslim depositors.

He said the RCI also highlighted allegations of political interference in governance and the appointment of board members during the investigation.

He said whether anyone is guilty can only be determined by the courts following proper investigation and prosecution.

"On this RCI issue, of course they will say they are not guilty. Whether they are guilty or not must be determined in court. This must be brought to court. These individuals must be charged in court," he said.

He also urged all parties not to exert pressure or interfere with the ongoing investigation process conducted by the authorities.

Earlier, the Malaysian Islamic Movement Coalition (HIKAM) and the Coalition of Islamic Non-Governmental Organisations submitted 10 demands relating to the TH RCI report, including immediate legal action, recovery of losses and assets, implementation of the RCI's recommendations, and continued governance reforms under the MADANI government.

HIKAM comprises the Persatuan Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (WADAH), Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (IKRAM), Pertubuhan Lepasan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia (HALUAN) and the Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM).
