Community Leaders Key To Explaining Govt Policies, Says Abang Jo
Premier Sarawak Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg

SARIKEI, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has urged community leaders and heads of ethnic groups to continue serving as a bridge between the government and the people to ensure the state's development policies are well understood.

He said a clear understanding of government policies was essential to prevent misconceptions that could undermine social harmony, investor confidence and the state's economic growth.

“Community leaders are not only grassroots leaders but also play an important role in communicating government policies so that the people understand the direction of the state's development,” he said when speaking at a dinner with community leaders and heads of ethnic groups here tonight.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said education remained the cornerstone of human capital development to ensure Sarawak's younger generation could compete in a global economy driven by technology and innovation.

In this regard, he said the Sarawak government allocates RM260 million annually to finance free tertiary education for eligible Sarawakians, regardless of their background.
