Digital Ministry, MDEC Urged To Act If Network School Breached Malaysia Digital Conditions

JOHOR BAHRU, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Johor state government has urged the Digital Ministry and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to take action if Network School is found to have breached the conditions or principles governing its Malaysia Digital status or any recognition granted to the organisation.

Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the Home Affairs Ministry (KDN) and its agencies should also investigate and take stern action if there is any misuse of second passports, misrepresentation of identity, breach of entry requirements or other offences under Malaysian law.

"This matter cannot be taken lightly, especially since Johor is the country's strategic gateway bordering Singapore. Any weakness or abuse of the immigration system must be addressed immediately, firmly and without compromise," he said in a Facebook post.

Onn Hafiz said the relevant agencies should strengthen due diligence, including background checks on ownership, funding sources, operational models and the narratives promoted by any company or organisation.

He added that inter-agency coordination should also be enhanced to ensure all international investments and initiatives are thoroughly assessed in terms of licensing, immigration, security, premises use and legal compliance.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz said the Iskandar Puteri City Council's (MBIP) decision to revoke the business licence of NSO Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Network School) and order it to cease operations in Forest City was made in accordance with existing laws and procedures.

He said the action followed a review of inspection reports, enforcement findings and representations submitted by the company.

While reiterating that Johor welcomes quality investments that create jobs and support economic growth, he stressed that no investor, company or organisation is above the law.

"Within the powers vested in the state government and local authorities, we will not compromise on any breach of the law or any matter that could jeopardise national security, sovereignty and the country's interests," he said.

He added that the state government would continue working with all parties to ensure Johor remains a trusted investment destination without compromising national security, sovereignty or the rule of law.

MBIP earlier today issued a Business Cessation Notice to NSO Malaysia Sdn Bhd, effective tomorrow, for non-compliance with licensing conditions and approved use of the premises. The decision was made at a special full council meeting on the company's operations.
