ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (Bernama-APP) -- Pakistan’s twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are resplendent with illuminations, flags and banners as Muslims across the region prepare to commemorate Maulidur Rasul with religious zeal, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.

Markets, residential streets and shopping plazas have been decorated with LED lights, buntings and calligraphic banners bearing “Marhaba Ya Mustafa (Prophet Muhammad SAW)”.

District administrations of both cities have started cleanliness drives and made security arrangements for central processions and Milad gatherings expected on 12 Rabiulawal.

Shopkeepers have set up special stalls selling decorative items, flags and Maulidur Rasul accessories.

In Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazaar and Commercial Market, shopfronts are lined with fairy lights and green drapes.

Muhammad Aslam, a shopkeeper in Raja Bazaar, said, “We decorate our shops every year to express our love for the Prophet Muhammad SAW, adding that this is not just business, it’s devotion.”

People have started buying lights and flags from the first week of Rabiulawal.

He said 12 Rabiulawal is the most special day for them as they give discounts on decorative items and distribute sweets to customers, which brings blessings to their business.

“People buy more in these days than in normal months, we stock extra lights, flags and Maulidur Rasul banners,” he added.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Islamabad’s Melody Market, F-10 Markaz and G-9 Bazaar.

In Saddar, Rawalpindi, young volunteers were seen helping shopkeepers put up banners and lights.

Zain Ali, a college student, said that such decorations reflect the deep affection Muslims have for the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

“Decorating homes and mosques is a way to show respect and gratitude. It also spreads the message of peace and unity,” he stated.

Residents expressed hope that the celebrations would be held peacefully.
