KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The national men’s hockey squad’s last minute equaliser earned them a 3-3 draw against South Africa in the last 2026 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup Group H classification match today.

In today’s match at Belfius Hockey Arena Belgium, Malaysia struck first through Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal in the 14th minute with a field goal but South Africa drew level three minutes later through Luke Wynford.

Azrai Aizad managed to strike again with a penalty corner in the 22nd minute only to see his team succumb to South Africa’s constant pressure that resulted in a field goal by Nicholas Spooner in the 28th minute to close the first half 2-2.

South Africa then went ahead in the second half, with Mustaphaa Cassiem scoring in the 4-3 minute, and Malaysia was heading for defeat till Faizal Saari saved them with a field goal in the very last minute of the match.

Today’s means Malaysia is last in the group, and will play in the 15th and 16th place decider.
