HARARE, Aug 18 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the boat capsize accident at Zimbabwe's Lake Kariba last week has risen to 93 following the recovery of one more body on Tuesday, local police said.
The tragedy has now become the worst public transport disaster in Zimbabwe's history, surpassing the 1991 Nyanga bus disaster that claimed 89 lives, according to the Zimbabwean official media The Herald.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi also released the names of 39 additional victims, urging the public with unaccounted-for relatives or close associates to contact authorities for assistance.
The boat was traveling from Kariba town to the Chalala Fishing Camp when the accident occurred on Aug 11. Authorities said 77 people have been rescued so far, while burials for recovered victims are underway.
