IPOH, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) in Perak has found no signs of water contamination in RON95 petrol storage tanks inspected at six petrol stations in Ipoh, Taiping and Kuala Kangsar.
Perak KPDN director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the finding was based on preliminary checks using manual dipping and cross-checks with the Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) system.
However, he said the preliminary findings could not be regarded as conclusive, as fuel samples taken by KPDN had been sent to the Chemistry Department for detailed scientific analysis.
"Therefore, KPDN is not drawing any conclusion on the allegation until the official analysis results are obtained and the investigation is completed.
“Perak KPDN will examine the laboratory analysis results and the overall findings of the investigation before deciding on further action.
“If any violation of laws enforced by KPDN is proven, firm action without compromise will be taken against those responsible,” he said in a statement today.
Kamalludin said the inspections were carried out following public complaints and viral social media posts alleging that RON95 petrol was contaminated with water, causing damage to consumers' vehicles.
He said enforcement teams had carried out several inspection measures to ensure a thorough investigation.
"These included manually dipping the fuel storage tanks using a dipstick or dip rod, cross-checking the readings against the ATG system, and taking RON95 petrol samples from the storage tanks and affected pumps for submission to the Chemistry Department for official analysis.
“We also collected and examined fuel supply receipts, fuel sales transaction documents and other relevant information from the petrol station operators for the period concerned,” he said.
