KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH)’s record-high investment income of RM4.64 billion for the 2025 financial year reflects the positive outcome of a more disciplined investment strategy, continuous risk management and strengthened governance.

Islamic non-governmental organisation (NGO) and civil society group Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (WADAH) secretary-general Azizuddin Ahmad said the strong performance demonstrated that the institutional reform and improvement agenda implemented over the past several years was bearing fruit.

He said WADAH took note of the explanation by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan in the Dewan Rakyat that TH’s investment portfolio was managed prudently, in compliance with Syariah principles and guided by the Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) framework.

“The framework ensures that TH’s portfolio is diversified across asset classes, sectors and markets, while risk management prioritises protecting depositors’ capital, asset and liability management, liquidity, and the selection of assets with sound fundamentals and sustainable cash flows,” he said in a statement here today.

He said TH’s financial position also remained strong, with total assets of RM98.58 billion against liabilities of RM95.63 billion for the 2025 financial year.

Azizuddin said the profit distribution rate had also increased from 1.25 per cent in 2018 to 3.50 per cent in 2025, involving a distribution of RM3.22 billion to more than 9.7 million depositors.

"This demonstrates the importance of strong governance, investment discipline, Syariah compliance and effective risk management," he said.

Azizuddin said the achievement should not lead to complacency, but the reform momentum must instead be maintained to ensure TH’s financial strength and depositors’ confidence can be sustained in the long term.

He said past experiences and the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into TH should continue to serve as a guide to strengthen systems, address weaknesses and ensure every decision involving depositors’ funds was made with integrity, competence and accountability.

At the same time, WADAH appreciated TH’s efforts to preserve the institution’s original mandate, including helping Muslims prepare for the pilgrimage.

“TH’s ability to maintain the Haj Cost at RM33,300 for four consecutive seasons from 2024 to 2027 also demonstrates the importance of sustainable financial management in supporting the interests of pilgrims,” he said.

WADAH said TH’s success should not be measured solely by financial performance, but also by the strength of its governance, security of deposits, shariah compliance, quality of services and continued confidence among depositors.
