KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent failed to add to its gold medal tally on the 13th day of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games today, but all eyes are on three key events tomorrow where track cycling champion Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang and the men’s and women’s squash teams will be hunting for gold.

The men's and women's squash teams booked their tickets to the final after defeating defending champions India 2-1 and hosts Japan 2-0, respectively, paving the way for Malaysia to potentially secure two gold medals from the court.

The last time Malaysia had representatives in the final for both squash categories was at the 2014 edition in Incheon.

In hockey, the national men's squad also advanced to the final after edging South Korea 2-1 and will face India in the title decider scheduled for Saturday.

Judo athlete Amir Daniel Abdul Majeed nearly pulled off an upset in his debut appearance when he came within one second of toppling former world championship runner-up Sotaro Fujiwara of Japan in the round of 16 of the under-81-kilogramme category.

Amir Daniel, who led until the very end, eventually lost after Fujiwara launched a counter-attack in the dying seconds.

Meanwhile, Mohd Azizulhasni contributed a bronze in the men's individual sprint after losing in the semi-finals, helping the national contingent accumulate six gold, five silver and 13 bronze medals so far.

The Pocket Rocketman, however, has a chance to add to his medal collection when he returns to action in the keirin event tomorrow, which will be one of the main highlights.
