Misha Omar Still Learning, Growing After 24 Years In Music Industry

PETALING JAYA, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Despite 24 years in the music industry, singer Misha Omar has never considered herself good enough, choosing instead to continually learn, grow and find ways to improve herself.

Misha, whose real name is Samihah Aisah Omar, said this principle has guided her throughout her career, particularly because singing requires continuous learning and development.

“The moment you think you’ve learned enough, that’s the end (of your growth). Every day is a new day, and every day is always a chance for me to improve in everything,” she said during an exclusive media session to promote her upcoming ‘Misha Omar – Aku & Lelaki’ showcase here yesterday.

According to the ‘Bunga-Bunga Cinta’ singer, she prefers to see herself as a student, believing that there is always something new to learn regardless of how long one has been in the industry.

The 44-year-old singer said she currently receives regular coaching from two vocal instructors, Shaffiq Erwin and Datuk Shafinaz Selamat, to further refine her technique and vocal control.

“As I grow older, I feel there is a need to take care of my emotions, energy and agility. That is why I continue to seek guidance because the art of singing is a continuous learning process.

“I always want to give my best to my fans who have supported me all these years,” she said.

She said guidance from individuals with greater expertise in vocals is particularly important in preparing for longer performances.

“I enjoy working with people who are better than me in terms of vocals, technique and so on. It helps make the dynamics of a performance and the arrangement of the songs more structured,” she said.

On the ‘Misha Omar – Aku & Lelaki’ showcase, which will be held on Oct 24 at JioSpace, Petaling Jaya, Misha said she has also been working on her physical fitness to ensure she is adequately prepared for a performance lasting almost two hours.

“I have been training with a personal trainer for four months and am now entering my fifth month. I can definitely see improvements in terms of physical strength and emotional resilience, although I have noticed that I get tired more quickly.

“But I want to give my best to the fans who have bought tickets and supported me,” she said.

Misha added that plans for a large-scale concert next year to mark her 25th anniversary in the music industry have been postponed due to several major events scheduled to take place during the year.

She said she is viewing the postponement positively and plans to create more new material instead.

“I’m still positive. Perhaps God is giving me more time to write more songs and expand my catalogue before I hold my 25th anniversary concert,” she said.
