KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) is targeting RM1 billion in sales next year from Bumiputera automotive entrepreneurs under its programmes.
MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the target was based on the encouraging performance of entrepreneurs participating in the MARA Automotive Ecosystem (MATEC) and various strategic industry collaboration programmes.
“To date, MARA has produced 534 automotive entrepreneurs, representing 15.3 per cent of total participation in the Bumiputera automotive ecosystem nationwide.
“We have also created more than 2,400 jobs, with current sales exceeding RM690 million,” he said at the pre-launch of MATEC 2026 here today.
Asyraf Wajdi said this year’s MATEC is targeting more than 300,000 visitors, double the 150,000 recorded at the previous edition, with more than 200 exhibitors from various automotive subsectors.
He said MARA was committed to strengthening the automotive ecosystem comprehensively, from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to financing and the development of high-growth entrepreneurs.
“Of MARA’s 345 educational institutions nationwide, 270 focus on TVET, with 30 per cent specifically dedicated to the automotive sector.
“To ensure the sustainability of Bumiputera workshops, which often face challenges after five to eight years of operation, MARA also emphasises business and financial management through strategic collaborations such as the MARA-PETRONAS Automotive Entrepreneur Development (PUMP) programme,” he said.
MATEC 2026, themed around three main aspirations: Future Automotive, TVET Excellence and Electric Mobility, will be held from Nov 27 to 29 at the grounds of the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
The event aims to expose local entrepreneurs to emerging technologies and global market opportunities.
