KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Although fans have long been looking forward to the return of Datuk Francissca Peter to the music scene, the veteran singer is in no rush to release new material simply to meet the demands of the music industry.
She said her comeback plans are still at an early stage, but “I already have several songs in my repertoire”.
The ‘Sekadar Di Pinggiran’ singer wants to ensure that every song she chooses is of the highest quality and carries emotional depth, in keeping with the principles that have guided her throughout more than four decades in the music industry.
Admitting that she is highly selective when it comes to choosing songs, Francissca, 65, said her extensive experience in the industry has made her more discerning before taking on a new project.
“I don’t want to release something ordinary; I want to deliver the very best.
“Although I realise my expectations may be high, I want to give my best to my fans who have remained loyal and supported me from the beginning until today,” she told Bernama during the ‘ShowBuzz’ programme produced by Bernama Radio at Wisma Bernama here today.
Francissca believes a good song is not simply one with an appealing melody, but one that tells a story and is capable of touching listeners’ emotions.
That principle was one of the reasons she was deeply moved when she first heard ‘Maaf Ku Pinta’, composed by Chevy Amry. The song moved her to tears and she did not hesitate to record it in 2023.
The 1986 ‘Anugerah Juara Lagu’ winner is also planning to release an up-tempo song centred on harmony and unity, a departure from the ballads she is best known for.
“The song is still being refined and does not have an official title yet. It carries a message of love and harmony among people regardless of race, and incorporates Chinese and Indian language elements to reinforce the message of unity,” she said.
Francissca also remains open to collaborating with younger artistes across different genres. Among the singers she admires are Aisha Retno, Aina Abdul, Misha Omar, Mimi Fly and Santesh.
