KUCHING, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The Borneo Post photographer Chimon Upon today received a contribution from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM, presented by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil at his residence in Tabuan Dayak here.
Chimon’s home was damaged on Aug 25 when debris from the roof of an adjacent building fell onto it, leaving cracks in the walls and affecting the electrical wiring.
“Thankfully, the incident occurred during the day, when his family members were not at home,” Fahmi told reporters after presenting the contribution.
Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, and TM One Sarawak general manager Mohd Zulkifli Ismuni.
Fahmi said he had asked TM to check its cables and Unifi service at the residence to ensure they had not been affected by the incident.
“So far, there have been no complaints regarding the Unifi service at the house,” he said, adding that Chimon could get in touch with the ministry through the Kuching Division Journalists Association should he require any assistance.
Fahmi said that as of Sept 15, a total of 845 media personnel had benefited from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative, involving a total of RM2.48 million in aid.
Meanwhile, the HAWANA Secretariat said in a statement that Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM is an initiative implemented under Telekom Malaysia’s (TM) corporate social responsibility efforts to assist media practitioners in need.
