PUTRAJAYA, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The issue concerning the pension of former High Court judge Datuk Syed Ahmad Idid Syed Abdullah is a matter for the Public Service Department (PSD), not the judiciary, said Chief Justice Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh.
He said the judiciary had no authority to determine pension eligibility.
“The matter is beyond our jurisdiction. He needs to apply to PSD, and the PSD will make the appropriate decision,” he said in response to a reporter’s question.
Asked whether the judiciary, which he has led since July 28, 2025, was free from corruption, Wan Ahmad Farid said that, at present, it was “so far so good”.
“I cannot say for sure. I also cannot guarantee anything, but so far, so good.
“I have not heard anything, even resembling what he said happened in 1996, about 30 years ago. So, I hope things are getting better,” Wan Ahmad Farid said.
He was speaking to the media after attending a reference proceeding for former Chief Justices and Chief Judges of Malaya at the Palace of Justice here.
Those honoured were the late Tun Mohamed Eusoff Chin (8th Chief Justice), the late Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah (9th Chief Justice), the late Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad (11th Chief Justice), and former Chief Judge of Malaya, the late Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob.
In an interview with a news portal, Syed Ahmad Idid said that in 1996, he was forced to resign as a High Court judge after authorities discovered a letter he had written containing allegations of corruption, abuse of power, misconduct, and other wrongdoing in the judiciary.
As a result of his resignation, Syed Ahmad Idid, who had served as a High Court judge for six years, lost his pension.
