KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Mohd Marzuki Yasoa’ has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of the Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM).
The commission said Mohd Marzuki, who has more than 26 years of experience in the cooperative movement, is expected to further strengthen its capacity to navigate the increasingly dynamic cooperative landscape, while enhancing the competitiveness, professionalism and governance of the cooperative sector.
“The appointment marks an important step towards strengthening SKM’s leadership and ensuring continuity in its administration, in line with its aspiration to further empower the cooperative movement as a contributor to the country’s socioeconomic development,” it said in a statement today.
It said Mohd Marzuki will oversee SKM’s management and day-to-day operations, including ensuring the effective, integrity-driven and impactful implementation of cooperative development policies, strategies and programmes.
Under the new leadership, the commission will focus on strengthening the cooperative ecosystem by enhancing governance, building the capacity of cooperatives, expanding business activities, promoting innovation and accelerating digital transformation.
As the country’s sole regulatory body for the cooperative movement, it said SKM would continue to work with the Cooperative Institute of Malaysia (IKMa) on training and human capital development, as well as Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (ANGKASA), which represents the voice and interests of the cooperative movement both nationally and internationally.
SKM will also step up strategic cooperation with the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (KUSKOP), ministries and government agencies, state governments and cooperative movement stakeholders to ensure that the cooperative sector continues to grow as one of the key drivers of the national economy, it added.
