PUTRAJAYA, Sept 14 (Bernama) — The Federal Court today honoured four of its own, the late Tun Mohd Eusoff Chin, Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah, Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad and Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob, at a reference proceeding marking their contributions and judicial legacies.
Each left a lasting mark on the Malaysian judiciary through years of service, and today's tributes made that plain.
Malaysian Bar vice-president Murshidah Mustafa and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar opened the proceedings with addresses, followed by tributes from family representatives and Chief Justice Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh.
The family representatives were Zuliana Mohd Eusoff, daughter of Mohd Eusoff; Datuk Azlan Mohamed Dzaiddin, youngest son of Mohamed Dzaiddin; Melati Abdul Hamid, daughter of Abdul Hamid; and Meor Amri Meor Ayob, son of Siti Norma.
Mohd Eusoff, Mohamed Dzaiddin and Abdul Hamid served as Chief Justices, while Siti Norma was Chief Judge of Malaya.
Mohd Eusoff Chin passed away on Aug 7 this year at the age of 90, after serving as Chief Justice from 1999 to 2000.
Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah, who succeeded him, died on July 11, 2024, at the age of 86. He served as Chief Justice from 2000 to 2002.
Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad died on Feb 19 this year at the age of 83, having served as Chief Justice from December 2007 to October 2008.
Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob, meanwhile, passed away on March 13 this year at the age of 85.
She made history as the first woman to serve as Chief Judge of Malaya, a position she held from 2004 to 2006.
Also present were Court of Appeal President Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, Chief Judge of Malaya Datuk Seri Hashim Hamzah, Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi, and Federal Court, Court of Appeal and High Court judges.
Also in attendance were former Chief Justice Tun Ariffin Zakaria, former Federal Court judge Tan Sri Zainun Ali and court officials.
