BANGI, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- About 30 percent of mosques in Selangor use artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalisation in their management, and the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) aims to extend the practice to all mosques in the state.
MAIS secretary Dr Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said the council, in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), is working to digitalise mosque financial systems to ensure more systematic financial management, improve transparency in bookkeeping and streamline documentation for audits.
He said some mosques have independently digitised congregation data to streamline administrative processes, including zakat surveys, enabling more accurate and transparent information.
“While the target is 100 per cent, the adoption of these practices will depend on the readiness of individual mosques to adopt the technology.
“Mosques that already have the necessary systems or basic infrastructure in place may be able to use the technology more quickly. For example, implementation may be faster in urban areas, where facilities are more readily available, compared with rural areas,” he said when met at the 12th International Conference on Mosque, Zakat and Waqf Management (IMAF) here today.
Mohd Sabirin said MAIS also regularly provided free courses on digital financial management and bookkeeping to mosque management committees across the districts.
He said MAIS has also begun using AI in its daily operations, particularly to standardise reporting and streamline information previously prepared using traditional methods.
Meanwhile, IMAF director Dr Md Rozalafri Johori said the 12th conference, organised by Masjid Al-Azhar of Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), featured 49 papers presented online and in person, with participants from Qatar and Pakistan joining virtually.
He said ethical considerations in the use of AI, including in managing Islamic institutions, were among the key issues addressed at the conference.
“The conference resolutions will first be brought to the university level before being taken forward for implementation,” he said.
