Activist Out On Bail After Remand Expires Over Bukit Lagi Land Case

KANGAR, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- An activist was released on police bail at 3 pm today, following the expiry of his two-day remand order in connection with a land encroachment case in Bukit Lagi.

Kangar police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said that two investigation papers, including one involving seditious content posted on social media in connection with the demolition of a temple here, have been completed.

"Both investigation papers have been forwarded to the State Prosecution Director," he said briefly in a statement today.

On Sept 4, it was reported that the man, a consultant, had been remanded for two days to assist in the sedition probe. However, he was rearrested after his remand ended on Saturday.

The land encroachment case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code, while the sedition case falls under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
