SEREMBAN, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- The Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi is being upgraded in stages at a total cost of more than RM6 million to improve facilities and enhance the comfort of teams and supporters.
State Youth and Sports Development Committee chairman Datuk Mustapha Nagoor said the upgrading project, funded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the Seremban City Council (MBS), involves four main phases, two of which have been completed while the remaining two are underway.
He said the two completed projects involved upgrading the home and visiting teams’ changing rooms at a cost of about RM500,000, as well as repainting the entire stadium at a cost of more than RM600,000.
“The other two projects underway involve upgrading the stadium’s floodlights and lighting system, including rewiring and relocating the poles, with an allocation of about RM4.3 million, as well as repair works on public toilets and the surau costing about RM650,000,” he said.
He said this to reporters after inspecting the upgrading project at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman here today.
The Palong assemblyman said the project to upgrade the lighting system, including the floodlights at the stadium, is expected to be completed by November if the existing pole foundations are still suitable for use, or by March next year at the latest.
He said the Public Works Department (JKR) was conducting a technical inspection of the old pole foundations to determine whether they were still sturdy and suitable for use before further action is taken.
“The last major-scale upgrading of the stadium was carried out in 2004 in conjunction with the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), making the current improvements necessary after more than 20 years.
“The state government also appreciates KBS for providing the allocation to improve sports facilities in the state, including the upgrading of the Hockey Stadium in Seremban 2 at a cost of more than RM5 million,” he said.
In another development, he said the management and coaching staff of Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) needed to formulate more effective strategies and ensure that all players took to the field with high spirits and motivation in the 2026-2027 Super League and FA Cup matches.
He said support from fans for the team was very strong, with more than 2,000 fans attending a match last week despite it being held in the afternoon.
