KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) necessitates a clear protection framework to ensure technological progress does not compromise the rights, creativity and livelihoods of arts practitioners or the viability of production companies in the national film industry.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the threat posed by AI to arts practitioners was among matters raised by representatives of the Malaysian Film Associations Coalition (GAFEMA), which comprises 13 affiliated associations, during a meeting following the inauguration of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) Tower here today.

He said other matters raised included intellectual property rights for works produced using public funds, affordable housing for creative practitioners, and allocations for film industry development and training.

"Insya Allah, all views and proposals put forward will be carefully considered to strengthen support for the film industry, which serves as a vital medium for enlivening art, culture and literature, as well as shaping the soul, mindset and national identity," he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar said without a strong foundation in art, culture and literature, the nation risked producing a generation devoid of soul, disconnected from its cultural roots and taking pride only in borrowed identities.

Also present at the meeting were Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and his deputy, Teo Nie Ching.
