SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- The Selangor 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) drew to a close tonight following a simple closing ceremony held at Aneka Walk, SA Sentral here.
The ceremony began with the arrival of the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari at 9 pm.
The event was enlivened by a welcome dance featuring traditional performances, followed by the official song of the biennial Games.
Athletes representing the 15 contingents then took part in a march-past, accompanied by a parade of the Games' mascots.
Following his welcoming address, Tengku Amir Shah officially declared the Games closed.
Pahang shooter Cheah Zen Hong and Selangor swimmer Eliza Tan Ai Shen were named the Best Male and Female Athletes of the Games, respectively, after the young competitors displayed strong determination in their pursuit of sporting success.
Selangor emerged as overall champions with 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze medals, ahead of the Federal Territories and Terengganu.
The victory marked Selangor's 10th overall SUKMA title, following previous triumphs in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2013 and 2016.
The Games featured 474 events across 37 sports and involved more than 13,000 athletes and officials.
