KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Maulidur Rasul should serve as an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on themselves and strive to become better, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
He said the noble values espoused by Prophet Muhammad SAW should continue to guide Muslims in their daily lives towards building more harmonious families, communities and society.
“Let us commemorate the birth of the great Prophet Muhammad SAW by reflecting on his struggles, sacrifices and compassion in guiding humanity.
“Love for the Prophet SAW should not be expressed merely through words and ‘selawat’ (prayers and salutations upon the Prophet), but should be reflected in our daily lives through good character, kind words, a willingness to forgive and concern for others,” he said in a Facebook post today.
The 1448H/2026M National Maulidur Rasul celebration will be held at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre (PKKSSAAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang, Selangor, tomorrow.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail are scheduled to attend the event.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the culture of seeking knowledge must be strengthened among Muslims, including through reading the Sirah (biography) of Prophet Muhammad and Hadith, to deepen their understanding and internalise his teachings.
“The observance of Maulidur Rasul (the Prophet’s Birthday) should not merely be celebrated through various programmes and activities; instead, it must be translated into efforts to truly know and emulate the Prophet in our daily lives,” he said in a post on his website.
Zulkifli also recommended that every household have at least one collection of the Prophet’s Hadith, such as the Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, or other Hadith compilations, as a reference.
He said Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s Kaifa Nata'amal Ma'a al-Sunnah al-Nabawiyah (How to Engage with the Prophetic Sunnah) could also serve as a useful guide to understanding the proper approach to the Prophet’s Sunnah.
“Understanding and emulating the Prophet is an obligation for all Muslims. This cannot be achieved without the process of seeking knowledge.
“The most important factor, after gaining access to these reference materials, is the willingness, determination and commitment to learn, understand and emulate the life of the Prophet, and subsequently to nurture the soul and spirit to love him,” he said.
