KUALA BERANG, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu office of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has brought its Safe Internet Campaign to 510 schools and educational institutions across the state.

MCMC Eastern Region senior director Mohd Fairus Muhamad said the programme aimed to educate students on the importance of using the internet safely and responsibly, while raising awareness of online scams, cyberbullying, the spread of false information, and the need to safeguard personal data and information.

He said the initiative had also been extended to communities through carnivals featuring exhibitions, talks and knowledge-sharing sessions involving local residents and relevant agencies.

“This effort is important because online safety is not the responsibility of individuals alone. It needs to be nurtured from within the family and reinforced throughout the community.

“We want people to be not only digitally literate, but also ethical and resilient in dealing with the various challenges in cyberspace,” he said at the opening of the 2026 Hulu Terengganu District Safe Internet Campaign Community Carnival at FELDA Mengkawang, here today.

Also present were Terengganu Region FELDA manager Shahruddin Ab Rahman and Terengganu MCMC director Abd Mubin Mohd Zain.

Some 500 visitors from around Hulu Terengganu took part in various activities, including traditional sports, an interactive quiz, a healthy cooking competition, a safe internet briefing and free health screenings conducted by Sultan Zainal Abidin Hospital.

Mohd Fairus said 20 carnivals would be held in Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan this year.

“This involves eight locations in Pahang, seven in Kelantan and five in Terengganu. The programme at FELDA Mengkawang is the first to be held in Terengganu, followed by FELDA Neram, Kemaman on Sept 5, Pulau Perhentian on Sept 26, while the dates for Marang and Kuala Terengganu have yet to be determined,” he said.
