SIBU, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Wing needs to strengthen and consolidate its grassroots machinery in preparation for the 13th Sarawak State Election.
Sarawak PBB Women’s Wing deputy chief Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said early preparations are important to ensure that party machinery understands their roles, election regulations and the voter profile in their respective areas.
“Whether our party and candidates win or lose depends on the party machinery. We can start moving and preparing now. This is the time for us to do our work,” she said in her speech at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Kita Empun (SKE) 3.0 programme for the PBB Central Zone Women’s Wing here today.
Sharifah Hasidah, who is also Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, said each branch should know the number and demographics of voters and review the latest electoral roll to ensure that election preparations are more organised.
She also recommended that workshops or refresher sessions on election operations and regulations be held to ensure that the party machinery understands what can and cannot be done throughout the campaign period.
She said the PBB Women’s Wing has played an important role in strengthening the party at the grassroots level through a hands-on approach and direct engagement with voters since its establishment in 1973.
Therefore, she said programmes such as SKE played an important role in strengthening the Women’s Wing by enhancing members’ understanding of the party’s struggles and keeping them informed of the Sarawak government’s policies and initiatives under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
