Kuala Lumpur, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- A group of Malaysian youth have expressed their patriotism and love for their country by bringing the knowledge, leadership, and aspiration of Malaysia's new generation to the global stage.

The youthful spirit was evident in 31 Malaysian young professionals who participated in the Global Muslim Youth Meet-Up (GMYM) 2026 at British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC), Manchester, United Kingdom (UK), on Sunday (Aug 16).

According to a statement by MyFundAction, patriotism among today's young generation is shown not only through flag-waving or parades, but in various forms including through their professions and services to society.

Among those who participated in GMYM 2026 was Johor-born Dr Mohamad Khir Johari, who leveraged his experience to help build the younger generation through his involvement in Youth of Strength & Happiness (YOSH) and the MyFundAction ecosystem. He has thus far helped develop more than 7,000 young people.

MyFundAction said youth development efforts are not just about preparing them for Malaysia's future, but also shaping them into individuals capable of contributing to society.

“As an organisation, MyFundAction builds Malaysian youth and instills in them courage to bring their knowledge, leadership, and contribution to the global stage through volunteerism, entrepreneurship, and academic excellence,” said the statement.

GMYM 2026 brought together Malaysian youth delegates from Ireland, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, and Malaysia along with 26 local youth leaders in the UK representing the Federation of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS), Islamic Societies (ISOCs), and the local Muslim community.

The programme highlighted network building, leadership, entrepreneurship, and education via topics that included the Muslim youth identity, social impact, professional development, and sustainable action.

The event was organised in collaboration with FOSIS, BMHC, and Islamic Society of Britain (ISB Campus). The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Shaukat Ali, was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony.

MyFundAction has some 5,000 volunteers who carry out leadership and social welfare projects within Malaysia and abroad, 90 per cent of whom are young people.
