KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Record-breaking performances and inspiring athlete stories took centre stage today - the fourth day of the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) - with the fight for gold medals intensifying across several events.

At the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Stadium, Johor sprinter Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee completed a golden hat-trick by winning the men’s 200 metres (m) and breaking the Games record.

His time of 20.86 seconds (s) erased the previous mark of 21.01s set by Selangor’s Muhammad Aqil Yasmin at the 2018 edition in Perak.

The victory completed Danish’s hat-trick of gold medals after he also won the men’s 100m and 4x100m events.

In the women’s 200m event, Izzatul Musfirah Ahmad Kamal Azira clocked 24.42s to clinch the gold medal and make up for the disappointment of winning silver in the 4x100m.

Perlis athlete Farhana Izurein Faizal Amizul also stole the show in shot put, marking her final SUKMA appearance in style by setting a new Games record with a throw of 14.22m en route to defending her gold medal.

The event saw the record being broken several times before Farhana finally emerged victorious.

Sarawak also enjoyed success when SUKMA debutant Yoyo Wong Zhi Yao bagged the gold medal in women’s hammer throw with a distance of 48.14m.

The 18-year-old’s achievement was made even more meaningful following a challenging journey in life, including helping her grandmother run a food stall in Sibu after leaving school.

Meanwhile, the battle for overall supremacy also remains intriguing, with Selangor continuing to lead the medal standings.

At the of Day 4 today, Selangor remained at the top with a haul of 23 golds, 24 silvers and 15 bronzes, followed by Johor (17-20-15) and Terengganu (15-22-14).

Competition on the fifth day of SUKMA 2026 tomorrow is expected to more intense as several events enter their decisive stages, providing the states with opportunities to add to their gold medal hauls.

All eyes will be on the Seri Sarjana Hall, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), where the pencak silat event will come to a conclusion.

Twenty-eight gold medals are at stake in the sport, making it one of the key battlegrounds for state contingents seeking to bolster their gold medal tallies before the end of the Games.

Road cycling events around the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and related routes will also conclude tomorrow, with a total of 10 gold medals on offer throughout the competition, which began on Sunday (Aug 16).

Several new sports will also begin tomorrow, including swimming and diving at the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre; fencing at the Shah Alam UiTM Sports Centre; wushu at the Shah Alam Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC); and esports at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Convention Centre.
