KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- National men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik secured a spot in the third round of the World Badminton Championships in New Delhi, India, after defeating Thailand's Peeratchai Sukphun-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul in the second round today.
In the match at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Aaron-Wooi Yik, who reunited for the prestigious tournament, had to fight back from a set down to overcome the Thai pair 15-21, 21-11, 21-18 after receiving a first-round bye.
In the last 16, Aaron-Wooi Yik will face compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, who comfortably brushed aside China's Huang Di-Liu Yang 21-14, 21-15.
Meanwhile, national women's singles player Wong Ling Ching got off to a winning start in the tournament after defeating Peru's Namie Miyahira 21-10, 21-11.
Ling Ching is scheduled to face tournament second seed Akane Yamaguchi in the second round.
In the men's singles, national shuttler Justin Hoh bowed out after being defeated by world number eight Lin Chun Yi of Taiwan 18-21, 8-21 in 40 minutes.
Professional mixed doubles pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were also eliminated, going down 16-21, 3-21 to Indonesia's Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
