MELAKA, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- PKR Youth (AMK) has been urged to undergo a paradigm shift and refine its strategies to win the support of voters aged 45 and below, who make up the largest segment of the country’s electoral roll.
AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the move was critical as the results of the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections required the party to reassess its strengths and approaches in winning the people’s confidence.
“We have just gone through two state elections which had a significant impact on us and require us to reassess the extent of our strengths and the strategies that need to be employed,” he said.
He said this when delivering his winding-up speech on the second day of the PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre here today.
He explained that based on electoral data, voters aged 45 and below form the largest group or segment in the electoral roll, making them an important demographic in efforts to ensure the party’s victory.
He also reminded grassroots leaders not to focus solely on administrative matters, but instead strengthen their leadership capabilities by gaining a deeper understanding of the people’s concerns.
He said although public feedback on the performance of the MADANI Government had been positive, the results of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls showed that there were still gaps that the party needed to identify and address.
He said party leaders needed to engage directly with communities, particularly small groups in rural areas, to understand their concerns and offer solutions that could win the people’s confidence.
“Our task starting today is to identify those concerns and fears and offer solutions to those problems. It must begin with all of us here, the grassroots leaders who are in this hall today, to address the concerns and fill the void that exists among the people,” he said.
Muhammad Kamil also reminded the party machinery to be prepared for the next general election, which he described as drawing increasingly near, while learning from previous defeats.
He said PKR’s history showed that the party was capable of creating surprises every 10 years, including in 2008 when it succeeded in denying Barisan Nasional a two-thirds majority in Parliament, and in 2018 when Pakatan Harapan formed the federal government.
He said efforts to continue the reform and change agenda required the entire party leadership and machinery to be prepared to lead the country and convince the people at the grassroots level.
