BATU KAWAN, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) is targeting at least 8,000 contributors nationwide to receive the MYRIDERID by the end of this year as an effort to strengthen safety aspects and emergency assistance for motorcyclists.
Dr. Azlan Darus, Head of PERKESO’s Prevention, Medical, and Rehabilitation Division, said that MYRIDERID is a QR code-based initiative that allows vital information about a rider to be quickly identified in the event of an accident, thereby helping to streamline the emergency treatment process.
"This initiative was introduced as part of the Malaysian Rider Campaign (MYRider) concept, which not only emphasises accident prevention but also takes into account actions during and after an accident," he told reporters after launching MYRIDERID at the Cup Prix race held in the Penang State Stadium, Batu Kawan here today.
Earlier, a total of 1,000 contributors received the MYRIDERID.
Azlan added that the QR code can be scanned in the event of an accident to allow information related to the victim to be known immediately and among the information that can be entered by the rider includes emergency contact details as well as medical information, such as blood type and medical history, which are crucial for medical personnel to know.
He said the distribution target of 8,000 MyRider IDs to PERKESO contributors will be implemented nationwide through several programmes, including the Cup Prix races and road safety campaigns with employers.
"We target to distribute at least 8,000 MYRIDERIDs to contributors across Malaysia, and PERKESO has also identified about 7,000 employers across Malaysia to jointly promote road safety messages to employees, especially motorcyclists, under the theme 'Be safe on the road'," he said.
He added that during the event, PERKESO also held a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) exchange with Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd and MForce Bike Holdings Sdn Bhd to strengthen strategic cooperation in promoting motorcycle safety.
He noted that the collaboration focuses on advocacy programmes, education, and the cultivation of road safety culture, which supports the aspiration of producing safe, prudent, and dignified Malaysian riders.
Boon Siew Honda was represented by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kunitomo, while MForce Bike Holdings was represented by its Chief Operating Officer, Asri Ahmad.
