The initiative was carried out through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme “Prihatin Mersing: Alam Terjaga, Warisan Terpelihara”, held in Mersing and Pulau Tinggi from Aug 10-11.
The contributions included cash aid for nearly 200 recipients, the installation of solar lights, the handover of a patrol motorcycle to the Johor Fisheries Department, support for small and medium enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs in the batik and virgin coconut oil industries, as well as the handover of laptops and safety jackets.
The programme, carried out in collaboration with the Mersing District Office, Mersing District Council, Mersing District Fisheries Office and relevant agencies, brought together various welfare, community development and environmental conservation initiatives.
Throughout the programme, AmanahRaya Group volunteers also took part in various environmental conservation activities, including cleaning the island, releasing turtle hatchlings and painting a mural along Jalan Abu Bakar in Mersing town.
In conjunction with the National Month, the volunteers also flew the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of patriotism and love for the country, while raising awareness of environmental conservation.
AmanahRaya Group acting managing director Jack Yap Ngee Heong, who is also the group’s chief business and operations officer, said the company believed that corporate success was measured not only by business performance but also by the value it returned to the community.
“Prihatin Mersing reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering communities and preserving the environment through close collaboration with our strategic partners. We hope every initiative carried out will continue to create a positive impact and support the country’s sustainable development agenda,” he said in a statement.
The statement added that as Malaysia’s sole Public Trustee, AmanahRaya was committed to further strengthening its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices through service delivery and the implementation of corporate social responsibility initiatives that created a positive impact on society and the environment.
