KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) midfielder Muhammad Afiq Fazail was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Malaysia League (M-League) for the 2025/26 season at the M-League Awards night held at Auditorium Seri Angkasa here tonight.
The prestigious award caps off a stellar season for the 31-year-old player, who played a crucial role in helping the Southern Tigers defend their Super League title while also securing the Charity Shield, FA Cup, and Malaysia Cup.
Afiq previously proved his consistency by being recognised as the Best Midfielder in the 2022 and 2023 editions, making the 2025-2026 season his third major success, edging out other nominees, Danial Amier Norhisham (Kuching City FC) and Nooa Laine (Selangor FC).
The MVP title adds a new milestone to his collection of individual achievements, following his instrumental role that included delivering six assists overall last season.
Achieving this title for the first time in his career simultaneously injects fresh motivation for him to perform even better in the upcoming season.
"I was surprised to win the MVP award this time. Alhamdulillah. I learned a bit from Safiq Rahim. I used to play with him before, for two or three seasons. I feel this is all teamwork; winning this MVP is entirely down to teamwork," he said when met here today.
Meanwhile, JDT dominated seven of the 15 main award categories contested this time.
Aside from the MVP award won by Afiq, Ahmad Syihan Hazmi stood out by retaining the Best Goalkeeper title for the fourth consecutive time, while Bergson da Silva once again proved his quality to be named Best Import Player, a feat he has repeated since the 2022 edition.
JDT head coach Xisco Munoz, who successfully guided the team to a fourth quadruple in the 2025-2026 season, claimed the Best Coach trophy on his very first nomination after taking charge of JDT last season, defeating reigning title holder Aidil Sharin Sahak (Kuching City FC) and Kim Pan Gon (Selangor FC).
At the same time, JDT also clinched the Best Team title, while the Boys Of Straits remained unmatched as the club's 12th player after being crowned Best Supporters once again in this edition.
