SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- A 66-year-old man and his eight-year-old nephew died, while two others suffered breathing difficulties in a fire involving a three-storey shophouse on Jalan Batu Unjur 9, Taman Bayu Perdana, Port Klang this afternoon.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 5.51 pm and found the second floor of the Class A building, measuring about 20 x 70 square feet, 90 per cent damaged by the fire.
He said the two victims were believed to have been trapped when firefighters arrived, while the other two were rescued by members of the public and taken to Klang Hospital after suffering breathing difficulties.
“After the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the two victims in separate toilets at 6.33 pm. Both were confirmed dead by Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel before their bodies were handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) forensics unit at 10.15 pm,” he said in a statement today.
He said the JBPM forensics team, together with the JBPM K9 Unit, conducted an initial investigation before the premises were handed over to the JBPM fire forensics team for further action.
The operation ended at 10.05 pm, involving 18 personnel from the Port Klang and Andalas Fire and Rescue Stations.
