GERIK, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today called on all Malaysians to pray for the speedy recovery of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is currently resting after undergoing a minor surgical procedure.
Ahmad Zahid said Anwar had informed him about the medical procedure on Tuesday (Aug 4), adding that he was confident that the Prime Minister would only need a short period of rest before resuming his duties.
"Let's pray together that his recovery will provide him with the comfort and strength to continue serving the country and the people as a whole.
"No matter how minor it (surgery) is, he needs at least two days of downtime,” he told reporters after officiating the launch of the 2026-2035 National Social Determinants of Health Strategic Plan for Orang Asli (NSPSDHOA) at Kampung Air Banun here today.
Earlier, the Prime Minister's Medical Team head, Datuk Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah, said Anwar successfully underwent an elective laparoscopic surgical procedure to treat an abdominal hernia (para-umbilical hernia) today.
He said the procedure went smoothly under the care of a team of medical specialists, and that Anwar is currently undergoing physiotherapy.
"He is currently undergoing physiotherapy and remains under the close supervision of the medical specialist team to ensure his recovery process progresses well,” he added.
