KOTA BHARU, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 60,000 white cigarettes suspected to be duty-unpaid, valued at RM112,200, and arrested a 37-year-old driver after intercepting a Toyota Vellfire at the shoulder of the Pasir Tumboh Bridge here early this morning.
Southeast Brigade GOF Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the suspect was stopped during Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan at about 1.30 am after he failed to produce relevant documentation for the goods and tested positive for drugs.
In a statement, he said other items seized included the Toyota Vellfire valued at RM95,000, two mobile phones worth RM3,000 and RM250 in cash, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM210,450. The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
Ahmad Radzi said the suspect and all seized items were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department and Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the Kota Bharu District Police Headquarters (IPD).
He said initial investigations found that the suspect had worked as a full-time driver for the past three years and was paid RM200 for each delivery, adding that the GOF would continue to intensify monitoring and patrols within its area of responsibility in Kota Bharu to curb smuggling activities.
