RAUB, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Independence is not just to be celebrated, but rather needs to be filled with development that brings benefits to the people as well as ensuring that their well-being is maintained, said Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

Thus, he said the state government implemented the Pahang 1st Aspiration as a basis to drive the state's overall progress and meet the needs of the community.

"We want the economy to grow, investment to increase, job opportunities to be created and children's education to continue to be empowered, at the same time, the welfare of the needy continues to be implemented by the state government," he said.

He said this while speaking at the launching ceremony of the Pahang-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Ceremony 2026 here tonight which was also attended by the State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Datuk Fadzli Mohamad Kamal.

In addition, he reminded the people not to let differences of opinion damage the brotherhood and harmony that has been built over decades.

"Despite different backgrounds, we share one country, we have one future, and despite different ways, we are still moving towards the same goal, namely a peaceful Malaysia, a developed Pahang and a prosperous people," he said.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with the launch of the National Month, Wan Rosdy called on the people of Pahang to fly the Jalur Gemilang with pride, while ensuring that the patriotic spirit also flourishes in the souls of every community.

He also said love for the country is not enough to be expressed through words or the raising of the flag, but rather needs to be translated through honesty, integrity, mutual respect, and willingness to help each other.

Earlier, Wan Rosdy also participated in the Walk A Town With Me Pahang 1st Maju Terus Pahang programme, which is a brisk walk of 2.7 kilometres around Raub town.
