KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Artistes’ Association (SENIMAN) has described the passing of veteran actor Kamarozaman Yusoff, better known as Cik Man, 68, as a great loss to the local arts industry.
SENIMAN secretary-general Hafiz Nafiah said the late actor, who passed away at 5.30 pm today at Tanah Merah Hospital in Kelantan due to heart complications, was among the country’s finest character actors.
He said that over more than four decades in the acting scene, the late Kamarozaman was known for his natural, soulful performances and was synonymous with the Kelantan dialect that became his trademark.
Hafiz said although the late actor was not one to seek recognition or popularity, his dedication, discipline and commitment to the arts made him a highly respected figure among industry peers and the younger actors.
“While a great artiste has departed, his works and contributions will continue to live on.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of SENIMAN Malaysia, we extend our deepest appreciation for his invaluable contributions in elevating the country’s creative arts industry and pray that his soul be blessed and placed among the righteous,” he said in a statement today.
Hafiz said the late actor first gained attention through his role as Farouk in the film Gila-Gila Remaja in 1986, before cementing his position in the industry with films such as Rozana Cinta 87, Rock, Rock Oo!, Rock Bro!, Tiada Tajuk, Cerita Hantu Malaysia, Mael Totey The Movie, Abu Si Raksasa, as well as the drama series Banyak Chanteq.
He added that Cik Man’s character in the Rock film trilogy directed by the late Mamat Khalid remains one of the most iconic roles in Malaysian cinema history and continues to be fondly remembered by local audiences.
