JAKARTA, July 30 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday called on state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to increase its investment in developing the rail network and providing a safe and efficient service for the people.
He said railways as an economical logistics system continue to play a significant role in modern society, and that KAI should continue to serve smaller towns.
“Technology and all infrastructure ultimately exist to serve the people,” he said.
He was speaking at a ceremony marking the completion of the first phase of the restoration of the Dutch colonial-era Semarang Tawang Station in Central Java as a cultural heritage site and the launch of KAI's new Nusantara Explorer service.
Separately, Prabowo also set a one-year target for the country to clean up all its rivers and waterways and resolve its waste problems to boost tourism.
The president also called for greater environmental conservation and the planting of hundreds of millions of new trees, if necessary.
