Government Initiatives Strengthen FELDA Community Development

MARAN, July 7 (Bernama) -- The various allocations provided to improve the well-being of the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) community reflect the government's continued commitment to safeguarding settlers' welfare and strengthening the development of FELDA communities.

Milah Yoot, a FELDA Chemplak settler in Segamat, Johor, said the initiatives introduced by the government would undoubtedly benefit the FELDA generation by enabling them to enjoy a better and more comfortable quality of life.

"The facilities and assistance provided by the government should be fully utilised by settlers, especially the younger generation, to continue improving themselves and carry on the legacy of FELDA's development," the 73-year-old said.

Milah, who was named the 2025 Outstanding Woman Settler Award recipient, spoke to Bernama during the FELDA Settlers' Day and FELDA's 70th Anniversary celebration at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium, Jengka, here today.

At the event, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced several initiatives, including an allocation of RM15.85 million to strengthen digital literacy among settlers across 317 eligible FELDA settlements.

In addition, RM10 million has been allocated to repair 370 primary and secondary schools in FELDA areas, while an additional RM3 million has been set aside for the FELDA MAYA Squad healthcare teams.

Meanwhile, Haron Sulaiman, a FELDA Jerangau Barat settler in Ajil, Terengganu, expressed his belief that initiatives such as the digital literacy programme would encourage the younger FELDA generation to continue moving forward.

"I warmly welcome this special incentive because it provides many benefits. Today's challenges are significant, and without continued government support, it would be difficult to succeed," the 66-year-old said.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Farizul Hafiz Awang, 36, said the government's role as a facilitator would help the younger FELDA generation own their own homes.

The FELDA Panching Utara resident in Kuantan said the initiative also demonstrates the government's concern for the needs of the FELDA generation, particularly those who wish to remain and build their lives in FELDA settlements.

Previously, Anwar was reported as saying that the government plans to amend the Land (Group Settlement Areas) Act 1960 (Act 530) to allow the construction of more than one housing unit on a single residential lot owned by FELDA settlers.
