Johor Polls: PH Manifesto Offers Holistic Solutions To Handle Cost Of Living - Maszlee
JOHOR BAHRU, July 7 (Bernama) -- The Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto for the Johor state election has been drafted based on the needs of the people and includes a monitoring mechanism to ensure that each offer can be implemented.
PH candidate for Puteri Wangsa state seat Dr Maszlee Malik said the manifesto does not just contain election promises, but rather offers realistic commitments that can be implemented with the cooperation of the federal government and relevant agencies.
"This is what is 'doable', our determination with the cooperation of the central government that can be done. In fact, among our commitments is that there should be a dashboard for the people to follow and monitor," he said on the Johor Polls Dialogue programme which was broadcast live on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Astro Awani and Sinar Harian.
Also present at the programme hosted by Sayed Munawar Sayed Mustar was Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Maszlee, who is also the former Education Minister, said among the main offers in the manifesto were the state health scheme, first home assistance for Johor residents, youth development funds, affordable homes and improvements to the education system that are adapted to current needs.
He said all the offers were drawn up after obtaining feedback from various community groups including workers and youth, in addition to taking into account financial capacity and cooperation between the state and federal governments.
Touching on the cost of living issue, Maszlee said the solution cannot depend on one-off assistance alone, but rather requires a more comprehensive policy to reduce the burden on the people.
He said the efforts included the provision of affordable housing, health protection and public transport assistance to target groups.
He said the government needed to continue to listen to the people's views and improve policies from time to time to ensure that each initiative truly benefits the community.
In addition, Maszlee said a strong relationship between the state and federal governments was important to ensure that various development agendas and benefits to the people could be implemented more effectively.
He said the federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has mobilised various efforts to boost Johor's economy including through the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
The Puteri Wangsa state seat saw a five-cornered contest between Mazlee, Rashifa Aljunied from the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), Teow Chia Ling (Barisan Nasional), Nicholas Paul Vincent (Parti Bersama Malaysia) and Wang Wee Siong (Independent).
The Johor polls will be held this Saturday after the early voting process today.
