KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Army soldier, Private Siti Khadijah Sungip, who was killed in a grenade blast last month, has been posthumously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
Chief of Army Gen Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman presented the promotion certificate to Siti Khadijah's mother, Zaleha Said, during a welfare visit to the family's home in Taman Sri Lambak, Kluang, Johor, today.
According to a statement issued tonight by the Malaysian Army's Strategic Communications Branch, Azhan also presented personal contributions as well as assistance from various organisations to the late soldier's father, Sungip Jais.
"The contributions included assistance from the Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) Foundation, the Royal Engineers Regiment (RAJD) food assistance box, and the Armed Forces Cooperative Group Insurance Scheme.
"In addition, the late soldier's mother will receive a survivor's pension, dependent's pension and ex gratia payment for dependants totalling RM1,682.60 per month," the statement read.
The statement reiterated the Malaysian Army’s commitment to safeguard the welfare of its personnel and their families by ensuring that next of kin receive all entitlements and benefits in accordance with service regulations.
In the June 16 incident, Siti Khadijah, along with Corporal Norazmi Abu Bakar, were killed in an explosion during a grenade-throwing exercise at the Hobart Camp firing range in Gurun, Kedah on June 16.
