Man Stopped At Berlin Airport With 16 Kilos Of Ketamine
BERLIN, July 3 (Bernama-dpa) -- Customs officials at Berlin Airport have caught a traveller carrying 16 kilograms of ketamine in his luggage, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.
The man was travelling from Berlin to Zurich in early June with a final destination of Hong Kong, customs said on Friday. They found eight vacuum-sealed bags containing a white crystalline substance hidden among clothes in his suitcase.
Tests confirmed the substance was ketamine, the statement said.
Customs officers arrested the 22-year-old at the gate after he had gone through boarding. Because of "possible attempts to resist," they forced him to the ground and put handcuffs on him. His actions indicated "the suspicion of links to organised crime," the statement said.
Officers seized the ketamine and his mobile phone as evidence.
Ketamine, also known as ketamine hydrochloride, is used in medicine as a painkiller. On the black market, the substance is considered a popular party drug because it can have a disinhibiting and euphoric effect, and in higher doses can trigger hallucinations.
