AADK Personnel Killed In Bera Crash Involving Drug-suspected Driver

KUANTAN, July 3 (Bernama) -- A National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) personnel was killed after the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driven by a man suspected of being under the influence of drugs at KM18 of Jalan Temerloh-Bahau near Bera today.

Bera police chief Supt Zulkiflee Nazir said Mohamed Sharif Mohamed Ali, 37, who was serving in Bera, died at the scene of the collision, which occurred at about 10 am.

He said preliminary investigations found that at the time of the crash, Mohamed Sharif was travelling from Triang towards Temerloh, and that the MPV, driven by a 29-year-old man with a 25-year-old passenger on board, was heading from Kuala Lumpur towards Triang.

"The MPV driver is believed to have lost control of his vehicle, which veered onto the opposite lane before colliding with the car driven by Mohamed Sharif, causing his car to skid onto the roadside shoulder,” he said in a statement.

Zulkiflee said the MPV driver and passenger suffered minor injuries to their legs.

He said the MPV driver, who tested positive for Erimin 5, has been detained and that the case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
