Malaysia To Continue Playing Constructive Role In Strengthening ASEAN - PM Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will continue to play a constructive role in strengthening ASEAN as a resilient, inclusive community capable of meeting the aspirations of its people, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said he reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment during a courtesy call by ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn after delivering the keynote address and participating in a question-and-answer session at the 39th Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR) here.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on regional issues and ASEAN's priorities in navigating an increasingly challenging geopolitical and economic landscape.
“We also discussed developments in Myanmar, the situation in the South China Sea, advances in artificial intelligence (AI), the post-accession phase following Timor-Leste's full membership in ASEAN, the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, as well as the implications of the conflict in West Asia on the region,” he said.
Anwar also stressed that ASEAN must continue to uphold the principles of unity, centrality and close cooperation to ensure the region remains peaceful, stable and prosperous.
