Johor Polls: Yap Places Economy, Youth Welfare at Heart Of Mengkibol Bid
KLUANG, July 2 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Mengkibol seat Yap Zhi Peng has pledged to prioritise economic growth and youth welfare if elected in the Johor state election on July 11.
Drawing on his two years of experience as a municipal councillor for the Yap Tau Sah zone, Yap said feedback from residents had highlighted the need for more job opportunities and fresh economic development in the constituency.
“The area lacks employment opportunities for young people and has seen little new development, such as industrial parks.
“My main focus is to help young people secure good jobs with competitive salaries,” he told Bernama during a walkabout in Taman Intan here recently.
Yap said his plans would be aligned with the Johor government's broader development agenda, noting that every administration should have a comprehensive blueprint covering all districts.
Yap is leading BN’s bid to wrest the Mengkibol seat from Pakatan Harapan (PH), banking on his track record of service and close ties with the local community during his tenure as a municipal councillor.
The constituency, one of the key battlegrounds in the election, will see a straight fight between Yap and PH candidate Chu Poh Yee.
Polling is on July 11, with early voting fixed for July 7.
