SHAH ALAM, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The Selangor branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is investigating 10 official complaints regarding the viral issue of RON95 petrol allegedly mixed with water, causing damage to users' vehicles in several areas in the state.

Its director, Muhamad Hanif Asa’ari said that the field investigation and enforcement action at the seven petrol station premises conducted yesterday were in response to public complaints and reports on social media.

"Field results show that 27 cans of RON95 petrol samples have been taken and seized from the affected petrol stations to be sent to the Malaysian Chemistry Department for laboratory analysis," he said in a statement today.

Muhamad Hanif said that initial inspections found that all the premises in question possessed valid Controlled Scheduled Articles (CSA) licences as well as licences under the Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA).

However, he said, a notice under Section 32 of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 has been issued requiring petrol station owners to submit information and business-related documents to assist the investigation.

"An investigation is being conducted regarding the possibility of a violation of Section 5(1)(c), read together with Section 6(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, related to allegations of false trade concerning the petrol content supplied," he said.

In this regard, he reminded all companies and petrol station operators to ensure that underground storage tanks are maintained regularly and comply with the established safety and quality standards.

"Strict action in accordance with legal provisions will be taken against any party found to be committing violations that jeopardise the interests and safety of consumers," he also said.

In the meantime, he advised affected users to keep the official petrol filling receipts and workshop inspection reports as supporting documents for complaints and to assist in investigations.
