KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The IEEE Standards Association has awarded the first certification under its Responsible AI for Children (RAIC) programme to d-AI-logue, an educational platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and developed by Greece’s National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR) ‘Demokritos’.
According to the association in a statement, the platform uses Socratic dialogue, a teaching method based on guided questions rather than direct answers, to help students evaluate information independently.
“We must help ensure that AI systems built for children prioritise safe and supportive experiences,” said 2026 IEEE President and Chief Executive Officer, Mary Ellen Randall.
She said the programme gives organisations a competitive advantage in showing that AI products such as smart toys, online games and educational tools support children’s wellbeing.
The certification provides independent assurance to Greek educators, schools, ministries and parents that the product has been evaluated against rigorous criteria for use with children, supporting broader trust and adoption as the platform expands into classroom pilots and educational programmes.
The RAIC certification requires organisations to build privacy protections, age-appropriate content limits and safeguards for children’s rights, as defined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, into their products from the start of development.
Products are evaluated by IEEE-accredited assessors before certification is awarded, and certified organisations must continue to demonstrate compliance as their products change.
The programme extends IEEE’s CertifAIEd ethical AI programme and is based on two IEEE standards: IEEE 2089, which sets requirements for age-appropriate digital services, and IEEE 7000, which guides ethical system design.
