KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 2,380 soft sponge toys, known as ‘squishies’, worth RM30,391 in statewide operations conducted from Oct 3 until yesterday.
Terengganu KPDN director Mohd Mufsi Lat said the seizures were made following 101 inspections at various premises, including shopping centres, grocery stores and convenience stores.
He said the toys were seized because they did not comply with the safety standards required under the Malaysian Conformity (MC) marking requirements.
“Action has been taken against six premises in Kuala Terengganu, and investigation papers have been opened under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 and regulations relating to toy safety standards.
“Under the regulations in force, toys must comply with the prescribed standards, particularly those designed or intended for use in play by children under 14,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Mufsi reminded the public, including local manufacturers, importers, suppliers, distributors and retailers, to ensure that toys supplied or sold for children complied with safety standards and carried the mandatory conformity mark.
Complaints or enquiries can be directed to KPDN’s Consumer Standards Division at its headquarters via the hotline 03-8882-5886 or email mysafe@kpdn.gov.my.
