KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Digitalisation is part of Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) wider effort to strengthen Malaysia’s electricity network, with Distribution Automation now standing at 44 per cent, covering approximately 39,400 substations, while Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) deployment has reached 6.1 million.
TNB chief distribution network officer Ahmad Sazree Abd Aziz said the continued modernisation of the network is aimed at preparing Malaysia’s power system for future electricity needs while safeguarding reliability and affordability as the energy transition progresses.
Speaking at Enlit Asia 2026 recently, he said building readiness requires action before the need becomes critical, with investment across Malaysia’s electricity network focused on stronger infrastructure, greater system resilience and the capabilities needed to manage an increasingly complex grid.
He said the strength of these national systems would also shape what ASEAN can achieve together as the region moves towards deeper energy integration.
Stronger interconnections and cross-border electricity trade can enable countries to draw on complementary strengths and build greater collective resilience, he said.
For TNB, strengthening Malaysia’s power system and advancing regional connectivity are part of the same ambition, which is in developing an energy system ready to support the region’s growth and transition over the long term.
