TOKYO, Oct 8 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 struck eastern Japan early Thursday, with shaking felt in Chiba Prefecture, the weather agency said, Kyodo News reported.
The 4:13 a.m. quake originated in the northeastern part of the prefecture at a depth of about 50 kilometres, registering 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale in Asahi, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The quake was also felt in neighboring prefectures, including Ibaraki.
About three hours later, a quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.0 jolted Ibaraki Prefecture, logging 3 on the seismic intensity scale in Hitachiomiya.
No tsunami was triggered by the two tremors.
